The obverse depicts a simplified monogram of Catherine II, made up of letters "Е"(Catherine) and Roman numerals "II" Upstairs the Imperial crown. On the sides there are two raised dots in the circle at the bottom of another such point (only 5 pieces).
On the reverse , nominal value - the figure "5" above, below, inscription in two lines - "ПЯТЬ КОПЕЕКЪ" Downstairs there is a triple horizontal line, under which is listed the year "1796".
In 1796, by decree of P. Zubov was conducted lowering the copper coin of the foot 2 times, therefore a new design of coins from the penny to 10 cents. As preset used the old coins of smaller denomination (a penny and 5 cents were minted on a new blank).
