The coin was produced from 1817 to 1831 (except for 1820 and 1821). The obverse and reverse sides have a protruding around the circumference of the rim with inward-facing teeth.The obverse of the coin
depicts the so-called "Masonic emblem". The coat of arms double-headed eagle without crowns with splayed wings, located above the Imperial crown. In paws the eagle holds the attributes of Imperial power among which the thunderbolts and a wreath of Laurel leaves. Under the eagle is located the winding tape of the order of Andrew's, stretched for the entire width of the coat of arms. On the breast a large diamond-shaped shield with the Moscow coat of arms: St. George on horseback slaying a serpentine dragon with wings. Under the arms at a considerable distance from each other, there are letters "П"and "Д"(initials of mintmaster mint). In a semi-circle along the rim below the date of issue "1827 ГОДА" at the top of the par - "ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ"On the coin reverse
in the middle of a four-line inscription: "ЧИСТАГО ЗОЛОТА 1 ЗОЛОТН. 39 ДОЛЕЙ"(symbol of the weight of pure metal). Below the horizontal line thickening at center, and under it the letters "С.П.Б."(Saint-Petersburg). The sides along the rim are two branches (oak and Laurel) that are associated at the bottom with tape. At the top of the Imperial crown.
