In 1723, a decision was made about the beginning of the minting of the first in the history of the copper penny. Developed several design options, one of them contained the image of St. George. On the front and reverse sides of the coin there is Kant, in the form of a thin wavy line.
The obverse of the coin in the middle of the field through all the coins held the thick solid horizontal chertas five raised dots, above the line specified denomination in two lines and the year of issue "ПЯТЬ КОПЕЕКЪ 1723"
The reverse of the coin depicts George on horseback spearing a snake-like dragon with wings.
