In 1890, in the Moscow Kremlin began work on the construction of the monument of Alexander II, the father of the reigning Emperor. After 3 years, was laid the first stone, and in August of 1898 took place the solemn opening (in the presence of Nicholas II). The monument included a large tent with the statue and colonnade in the form of letters "П"with two small tents on the ends. Came to power, the Bolsheviks considered the monument is not befitting the new era and in 1918 a statue of the Emperor was removed. Even after 10 years the whole structure was dismantled.
