shows part of the monument to the defenders Elhotova gate in the village of Elkhotovo (North Ossetia). On a circle the inscription: top - "БИТВА ЗА КАВКАЗ" at the bottom in a smaller font - "ВЕЛИКАЯ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННАЯ ВОЙНА 1941-1945 гг."(labels separated by five-pointed stars).
The obverse and reverse sides have a protruding on the circumference of the piping.

The battle for the Caucasus lasted from 25 July 1942 to 9 October 1943. After a failed attempt to capture Moscow Nazi troops moved South to gain access to important resources and to strengthen its position for the further capture of the Soviet Union. Fighting was going on in parallel at Stalingrad and in the Caucasus. The victory at Stalingrad in the winter of 1943, Soviet forces went on the counteroffensive to the South. The battle took place in difficult mountainous conditions, both sides suffered heavy losses. As a result, the invaders were forced to retreat in the direction of Ukraine. The attempt of the Soviet army to encircle the Germans in the Caucasus were not successful.
