depicts the monument to the defenders of the Peninsula Rybachiy, located in the Murmansk region. On a circle the inscription: top - "ОПЕРАЦИЯ ПО ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЮ КАРЕЛИИ И ЗАПОЛЯРЬЯ" below - "ВЕЛИКАЯ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННАЯ ВОЙНА 1941-1945 гг."(labels separated by five-pointed stars).
The obverse and reverse sides have a protruding on the circumference of the piping.

Defense of the Arctic lasted from June 29, 1941 November 1, 1944, and was necessary for the Soviet Union to hold the Northern sea route, which was delivered goods from the allies (the black sea ports was almost completely captured). Nazi troops, which included also Finnish army, after the encirclement of Leningrad in the first days of the war moved North. Quickly reaching the Kola Peninsula, the invaders were greeted with strong aviation and artillery of the Northern fleet. Plans for the seizure of Murmansk fell and the front line was West of the city. Hitler had changed tactics, and further attack was from the sea. The Soviet Navy helped Britain and Iceland, warships were converted trawlers. During the war, managed to hold under for almost fifteen hundred convoys from the UK and the USA. Because of the reluctance of the Finnish parties to conclude a peace Treaty in the summer of 1944 it carried out several ground operations to liberate Karelia, after which the contract was signed and the fighting have already crossed into the territory of Northern Finland.
