The obverse of the coin

(consists of letters "ММД". On the left, near Kant is one small part of a floral ornament.The coin's reverse
depicts two anti-aircraft guns, "Katyusha" on the background of the city skyline. One of them (in the background) produces a volley, and charged the other two artillery. The left and the medal "gold Star". Below in a semicircle the word "СМОЛЕНСК"
The obverse and reverse sides have a protruding on the circumference of the piping.

The coin is issued on 4 may 2000 in honor of the 55th anniversary of the Victory. The series consists of 7 coins, each one dedicated to one of the hero cities. In 2017, the series was complemented by two more coins (Kerch and Sevastopol).
Smolensk was awarded the title hero city in 1985. This city was in the path of the offensive and one of the first to join in the Great Patriotic war, severely undermining the morale of the enemy.
