Kerch is known since the VII century BC as the Greek colony of Panticapaeum. From those times partially preserved fortress, which is one of the oldest architectural monuments of Russia. During the great Patriotic war in Kerch, there were two important events: the landing during the Kerch-Eltigen operation and defense of the adzhimushkay quarry. This not only helped to liberate the city, but also paved the way for the future of the liberation movement in South South-Western directions. 14 September 1973 Kerch was awarded the title hero City.
