depicts the emblem of the Ministry of education of the Russian Federation. The yellow ring along the circumference clockwise the inscription (starting at bottom): "МИНИСТЕРСТВО ОБРАЗОВАНИЯ РОССИЙСКОЙ ФЕДЕРАЦИИ"(the beginning and the end of the label separated by a dot).

The coin is issued on 6 September 2002 in honor of 200-anniversary of the formation of the first Russian ministries. From established on 8 September 1802 by decree of Alexander I of eight ministries to have survived 7 (Ministry of marine forces entered the Armed forces), others have changed only the names. They added many others, which previously was not.
The Ministry of education (March 9, 2004 - the Ministry of education and science) is engaged in the planning and monitoring of research activities, monitors the education of youth, developing methods of teaching in educational institutions. It was formed in 1996 from two agencies that were the successors of such agencies in the Russian Federation. Before the Revolution it was renamed to "Ministry of education".
