The obverse of the coin in the ring of dots depicts the emblem of the Bank of Russia (the eagle with drooping wings), under the right paw mark of the Leningrad mint (stylized letters "ЛМД". From the outside of the ring up in a semicircle along the rim the inscription: "ОДИН РУБЛЬ 1993 г." below "БАНК РОССИИ"(the inscriptions are separated by ornaments, consisting of rhombuses).
The reverse of the coin depicts the portrait of I. S. Turgenev in profile, face to the left, underneath, near the neck a branch of Laurel, and below the facsimile signature of the writer, which years of life: "1818-1883".
The obverse and reverse of the coin features the speaker on the circumference of the piping.
