The obverse of the coin

depicts a battle scene of Alexander Nevsky with the Livonian order, in the lower part visible to the breakaway ice floes. Upstairs along the rim a stylized antiqued the lettering: "750-ЛЕТИЕ ПОБЕДЫ АЛЕКСАНДРА НЕВСКОГО НА ЧУДСКОМ ОЗЕРЕ" below the date - "5 АПРЕЛЯ 1242 ГОДА"

The famous battle on the Ice is one of the most significant battles of Ancient Russia, has occurred on the ice of lake Chud on 5 April 1242 between forces of the Livonian order of Alexander Nevsky. For the Russian Prince fought Novgorod region, the Vladimir Principality and the Izhora tribes. The importance of the battle was the suspension of the offensive of the West enemies of Russia, especially in its Central Principality, weakened by the Tatar-Mongols. This date is celebrated as the Day of military glory of Russia (18 April, new style).
