The obverse of the coin
vividly depicts St. Basil's Cathedral (Pokrovsky Cathedral) in Moscow, right underneath the mark of the Moscow mint
(stylized letters "ММД" upstairs on the left the emblem of the Bank of Russia: double-headed eagle with drooping wings. depicts a stylized constellation Virgo on the background stars and the planet Earth (4 October launched the first artificial satellite of the Earth, when the Sun is in this constellation).
