Embossing is produced on the workpiece consisting of two metals - and-white copper-Nickel ring, inside which copper-zinc disk. The obverse and reverse sides have a protruding on the circumference of the piping.
The obverse of the coin in the center is a depiction of the emblem of the Bank of Russia (double-headed eagle with drooping wings), still below the mark of the Leningrad mint (stylized letters "ЛМД". The white rim above the inscription: "50 РУБЛЕЙ 1994г." below the inscription: "БАНК РОССИИ" The inscriptions are separated elements consisting of two intersecting rhombuses.
On the coin reverse in the center (yellow disk) the image of the bison among the grassy tussocks. On a circle above the inscription - "КРАСНАЯ КНИГА" below - "ПЕСЧАНЫЙ СЛЕПЫШ" Labels separated by dots.
Refers to a series of 15 bimetal coins dedicated to the animals of the red book.

The sandy mole rat is a rare species of mole, with little eyes, ears and tail. Leads exclusively subterranean lifestyle, arranging a long gallery with many branches. Body length up to 30 cm, covered with light gray fur; it has great teeth and a great scent. Found only in the steppes of southern Ukraine, mostly in the reserve Askania Nova.
