The obverse of the coin is divided into two parts (upper approximately in 2 times more low). Each piece is framed with a solid line. In the upper part of the emblem of the USSR of the sample of 1956 with 15 bands of the tape (number of republics). The coat of arms is simplified and has no inscriptions on the ribbon. Left and right of the emblem there is an inscription "СССР" divided into two parts ("СС"and "СР". The letters are arranged in a semicircle, skirting the crest. At the bottom of the obverse in the middle is the denomination - a large number "10", underneath, in smaller font the word "РУБЛЕЙ"
In the foreground of the reverse depicts a volleyball player, the player of one team hits the ball over the net, two players of the other team trying to close its field; in the background the building in which the competitions were held in volleyball. Bottom left is the mint mark (LMD - Leningrad). To the left of the grid, the emblem of the Olympics-80, at the top along the rim, a semicircular inscription stretches "ИГРЫ XXII ОЛИМПИАДЫ" below along the rim inscriptions: "МОСКВА"and "1980", separated by dots. The bottom of the coin near the middle of the piping between the two horizontal lines indicate the year of issue "1979".
On the front and back parts of the coin along the circumference has a raised rim.
Volleyball entered the Olympic programme in 1964. Players are divided into two teams, each is on its own half of the field, in the middle of the stretched mesh. A player must not hold the ball, points are scored for the fall of the ball on the opponent. Each new round begins with the release of the ball from the far end of the field. The game lasts as long as one of the teams will score 25 points.
