The coin is issued for the Summer Olympic games in Moscow in 1980. Total circulation - 345008 PCs (118353 quality brilliant uncirculated, the rest Uncirculated). Coinage was only produced at the Leningrad mint.
The obverse of the coin is divided into two parts (upper approximately in 2 times more low). Each piece is framed with a solid line. In the upper part of the emblem of the USSR of the sample of 1956 with 15 bands of the tape (number of republics). The coat of arms is simplified and has no inscriptions on the ribbon. Left and right of the emblem there is an inscription "СССР" divided into two parts ("СС"and "СР". The letters are arranged in a semicircle, skirting the crest. At the bottom of the obverse in the middle is the denomination - a large numeral "5" under it, in smaller font the word "РУБЛЕЙ"
On the reverse is shown below the swimmer in the background at the top of the stadium. In the lower part has: on the left the emblem of the Olympic games-80, on the right is a small sign of the mint (LMD - Leningrad). There Kant horizontally is the year of the coin - 1978. Left, above and to the right along the rim are the inscriptions: "ИГРЫ XXII ОЛИМПИАДЫ""МОСКВА"and "1980", separated by dots.
On the front and back parts of the coin along the circumference has a raised rim.
