The coin is issued for the Summer Olympic games in Moscow in 1980. Total circulation - 315006 PCs (107 928 quality brilliant uncirculated, the rest Uncirculated). Part of the circulation is minted with the mark of the Leningrad mint.
The obverse of the coin is divided into two parts (upper approximately in 2 times more low). Each piece is framed with a solid line. In the upper part of the emblem of the USSR of the sample of 1956 with 15 bands of the tape (number of republics). The coat of arms is simplified and has no inscriptions on the ribbon. Left and right of the emblem there is an inscription "СССР" divided into two parts ("СС"and "СР". The letters are arranged in a semicircle, skirting the crest. At the bottom of the obverse in the middle is the denomination - a large numeral "5" under it, in smaller font the word "РУБЛЕЙ"
In the foreground of the reverse shows hammer thrower during the backswing, close the protective mesh in the background of the stadium. On the right - the emblem of the Olympic games-80, at the top along the rim, a semicircular inscription stretches "ИГРЫ XXII ОЛИМПИАДЫ" below along the rim inscriptions: "МОСКВА"and "1980", separated by dots. On the front and back parts of the coin along the circumference has a raised rim.
The hammer throw was included in the Olympic programme in 1900, and 2000 were held competitions among women. The purpose of this course is throwing the hammer at a distance. The athlete makes the scope, revolving around its axis on a special metal circle, the audience protects the grid.
