The obverse of the coin in the upper part of the disc - the coat of arms of the USSR of the sample of 1956: the hammer and sickle on a globe, beneath the rising sun, at the top a five-pointed star; the sides of the ears of corn, tied with fifteen turns of the tape, the lower stage is much wider, symbolizes the RSFSR (the rest of the coils - the other republics). Under the coat of arms, nominal value: a large stylized number "1" under which the horizontal is the word "РУБЛЬ" even lower small digits indicate the year of issue "1983". On either side of the emblem the inscription "СССР" divided into two parts.
On the coin reverse there is a portrait of the first woman-cosmonaut V. V. Tereshkova in a spacesuit in palanthas. In the background are the wide, crisscross lines, forming the number "20" in Roman numerals, which are placed around a stylized star. Below along the rim the inscription: "16-19.VI.1963" (the date of the flight Tereshkova).

Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, world first female astronaut, was born in 1937 in the Yaroslavl region. The final selection took into consideration the origin and the ability to carry out social activities, with medical records and preparation was put into the background (this has created additional difficulties during the flight). June 16, 1963 spaceship "Vostok-6" Tereshkova during the three days 48 times circled the globe, before landing in the Altai region. It immediately aroused great interest among local residents, who gave her all the necessary conditions and food. Instead Tereshkova shared their space food.
