Description of coin 5 rubles 1988 "The monument "Millennium of Russia", Novgorod":

The obverse of the coin in the upper part of the disc - the coat of arms of the USSR of the sample of 1956: the hammer and sickle on a globe, beneath the rising sun, at the top a five-pointed star; the sides of the ears of corn, tied with fifteen turns of the tape, the lower stage is much wider, symbolizes the RSFSR (the rest of the coils - the other republics). Under the arms the full width of the coin there is an inscription "СССР" below is the value: a large stylized number "5" under which a semicircle along the edge to the floor "РУБЛЕЙ" even the small numbers below the year of issue "1988".

On the reverse in relief is depicted the monument "Millennium of Russia" in the background of the Novgorod Kremlin Park. Beneath the base of the monument is placed a horizontal inscription in ancient characters «НОВГОРОД» up in a semicircle along the edge to the lettering in the same font: «ПАМЯТНИК «ТЫСЯЧЕЛЕТИЕ РОССИИ» under the first letter "П"the date of the monument is "1862".

The obverse and reverse of the coin features the speaker on the circumference of the piping.

At the bottom of the pedestal is a frieze with reliefs, which depict the outstanding figures of Russia. The height of the monument is 15.7 meters, diameter - 9 meters, weight 10 tons.
