Peterhof, suburb of Saint Petersburg, was the Imperial summer residence during the time of Peter I, who organized a grandiose construction. He intended to create a complex, surpassing Paris Versailles, but the original Palace was rather modest. The establishment of the Park with numerous fountains, with natural inflow of water under pressure, lasted to the end of XVIII century, in the reign of Elizabeth the Palace was expanded to an enormous size. During the great Patriotic war the Palace and part of the fountains were destroyed, and later restored to its original form. Now the complex is the hallmark of Peterhof, the world famous. Particularly in demand among foreign tourists who combine a visit to Peterhof with a tour of St. Petersburg attractions.
