Description of coin 5 rubles 1991 "Red book. Markhor":

Embossing is produced on the workpiece consisting of two metals - and-white copper-Nickel ring, inside which copper-zinc disk. The obverse and reverse sides have a protruding on the circumference of the piping.

The obverse of the coin in the center of the specified value: a large figure "5" under it horizontally the word "РУБЛЕЙ" still below the mark of the Leningrad mint (stylized letters "ЛМД". To the left of the denomination figures a Laurel branch, to the right is oak. The white rim above the inscription: "ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ БАНК СССР" at the bottom the year of issue: "1991". Labels separated by five-pointed stars.

On the coin reverse in the center (yellow disk) on the background of a mountain landscape depicts a markhor. On a circle above the inscription - "КРАСНАЯ КНИГА СССР" below - "ВИНТОРОГИЙ КОЗЁЛ" Labels separated by dots.

Refers to a series of 15 bimetal coins dedicated to the animals of the red book.

Total circulation: 550 thousand, including 50 thousand coins improved quality (UNC) (produced in plastic zapico plastmassovyh or in boxes of two pieces).


Markhor - a type of mountain goats features a long corkscrew horns. Another scientific name of markhor. Live in the highlands on the steep cliffs of the Himalayas, Pamirs and Tibet. Feed on vegetation that covers the slopes of the mountains. Habitat helps them to avoid predators who just can't climb sheer cliffs. The domestication of horned goats brought new breeds of domestic goats.
